On Research:
People are increasingly turning to the internet to find information they need. Nowadays you can find directions, movie times, health advice, job listings, dating services, homes for sale and much more all within a few clicks of your mouse. Every day, information that existed in limited quantities is being digitized for the masses: newspapers and magazines now have online editions, books have download versions, research and scientific papers are increasingly being published online, Google is even scanning thousands of books into electronic form. The world's knowledge is becoming accessible to everyone, but how will we organize it? The answer is iBreadCrumbs.
On Search
Increasingly, people are searching the internet with a specific purpose in mind. Rather then looking for one site that will have the perfect content, searchers gather a number of sites to compare information and find the best. iBreadCrumbs is tailored to this type of search process. You simply record all the sites during your search, removing the bad ones (by clicking on *insert delete icon*), and thumbs up'ing the best ones (by clicking on *insert thumbs up icon*), allowing you to create your personal research collection. iBreadCrumbs empowers you to be your own researcher.
On Plagiarism
iBreadCrumbs is a research tool, it enables students, professors, and anyone, to save and share their online research. Some may argue that it is encouraging plagiarism or that it is taking away a student's opportunity to learn how to research themselves. We see iBreadCrumbs as a way to improve the quality of research, a way for students to locate the same research they would have anyways, but just faster and with more precision and group analysis. It is a new innovation in the real world, and the more tools students can use, the more productive they can become. Calculators replaced doing long math problems by hand, did this mean that students who use them are less proficient in math? Not at all, in fact, the calculator has improved the accuracy and efficiency of the student that knows how to use it. In this same way, iBreadCrumbs is a powerful collaboration tool which enables student's research to build on itself each semester, resulting in more accurate and up to date information and better quality research papers.
On Privacy:
In the information age, information has value, especially if it is personal information. The BreadCrumbs created in this site have value, especially when users add their own commentary and analysis. Please know that while you are recording the pages you visit with our toolbar, we do not gather any other data (logins, passwords, address, emails, personal information, etc). The only information that's saved is the information you see when you save your BreadCrumbs to your account. We don't sell any of your information to anyone, period. Please know, though, that the BreadCrumbs that you save as public and the notes they contain, are free for anyone to view. You may save your BreadCrumbs as Private or Visible to Friends Only if you want to keep them from prying eyes.
